Good News: Central govt increased the ‘minimum wage’ for workers

New Delhi: According to a letter from the central labor commissioner, the Union government increased the central minimum wages for industrial and agricultural workers on Thursday. These increases are based on sector types and skill levels and were made in response to price increases.

The Minimum pay Act of 1948 confers authority upon the federal and state governments to establish, examine, and amend the minimum pay of employees working in industries under their purview.

The workers in building construction, loading and unloading, security guards, sanitation workers, housekeeping, mining, and agriculture will profit from the central government’s increase in the minimum wage. October 1, 2024, will mark the implementation of the new pay rates. The government last raised the minimum wage in April 2024.

The lowest amount of compensation that businesses are required to pay employees, known as the minimum or floor wage, is guaranteed by law and cannot be changed by individual or exclusive contracts.

Following adjustment, an unskilled worker’s minimum pays for building, sweeping, cleaning, loading, and unloading will be Rs 783 per day, or Rs 20,358 per month.

The rate has been increased to Rs 954 per day or Rs 24,804 per month for skilled, office staff and security guards and for semi-skilled the rate will be Rs 868 per day or Rs 22,568 per month.

The floor salary for highly skilled workers and security guard with arms will be Rs 10,35 per day, or Rs 26,910 per month.
