Voting to take place in ‘attack’ prone areas of J&K

Srinagar: On Wednesday, September 25, the second round of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections is scheduled to occur. All six of the Union Territory’s poll-bound districts will have increased security. Reasi, Rajouri, and Poonch are three of the six districts that have notably had consecutive terror strikes in the last three years.

Security tightened across 6 districts of J&K ahead of phase two of Assembly elections

All six districts have rigorous security measures in place to guarantee that voters may securely exercise their right to vote, particularly the 11 assembly segments located in hill areas, which have seen the highest rate of attacks in recent years. Since 2021, these places have been the target of over a dozen terror attacks. The most recent and severe attack was on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi, leaving nine people dead.

Given that numerous areas are located along the Line of Control (LoC), officials stated that, despite the likelihood of cross-border firing being reduced due to the current cease-fire a strategy has been developed to deal with any circumstance.

Over 2.5 million voters in six districts—three in the Jammu division and three in the Kashmir Valley—will cast votes in the second round of the J&K assembly elections.

On Wednesday, the voting for Phase 2 will take place in all assembly seats starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m.
