Sharing a video of BJP MP Kangana Ranaut endorsing the farm laws, the Congress on Tuesday challenged the governing party to restore these “black laws.”

Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut talked about restoration of ‘farm laws’, Congress hits back

“Kangana Ranaut, a BJP MP, is advocating for the restoration of the three black laws that were imposed on farmers. Only after over 750 farmers died as martyrs did the Modi government wake up and withdrew the laws. MPs from the BJP now seek to revive these laws. Even if Narendra Modi and his MPs put in their best effort, the Congress would always support farmers and these black laws will never be brought back,” the Congress stated on X.

In the video, the actor-politician realizes that her views will be controversial and says the farmers themselves should urge that the laws return.

Previous controversial statements passed by Ranaut

Ranaut’s party issued a warning to her last month after she made a remark suggesting that India would end up like Bangladesh due to the protests over farm laws.

At the Chandigarh airport in June, a female constable from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) slapped Ranaut. The latter asserted that her mother had taken part in a protest by farmers.

Additional information

The implementation of the agricultural laws, in September 2020, had led to year-long blockage of Delhi’s borders by the farmers, before prime minister Modi, in an address to the nation in November 2021, apologized for ‘failing to convince’ the farmers, and canceled the laws.

The Congress has included a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops in its manifesto for Haryana, ahead of assembly elections. This is one of the main demands of the agitation against farm laws. The bulk of protesters there were from Punjab, but there were also a sizable number of people from nearby Haryana.
