“The accused and other constables, including Assistant Police Inspector (API) Nilesh More, were with the accused in the back, and I was seated beside the driver. API More informed me that Akshay had become aggressive,” Inspector Sanjay Shinde told India Today on Tuesday.

“Akshay Shinde questioned the police officers who were with him, ‘Why are you taking me again? Now what have I done? He threatened to kill everyone and was mistreating them,” the officer stated.

Inspector Shinde went on to say that he stopped over and attempted to console the accused. But he also said that things got out of hand at the Mumbra bypass at about 6:15 p.m.

“Akshay Shinde took hold of API More’s pistol, and in the accompanying fight, the gun went off, wounding More in the leg. The injury caused him to collapse,” the Inspector recalled.

“Akshay then attempted to hit me and the other officers with two more shots, but both of them missed. I accidentally stunned him with a single shot out of fear for my life and the safety of my fellow policemen. Akshay fell unconscious inside the van, allowing us to take back control,” the officer stated.

Akshay was rushed to a hospital, which declared him brought dead.
