Mumbai: Police shot and killed Akshay Shinde, who was accused of sexually abusing two girls at a school in Badlapur town in the Thane region of Maharashtra, after he stole an officer’s revolver and opened fire on them.

Akshay Shinde, accused of assaulting two minor girls in school’s washroom in Badlapur town of Maharashtra was shot dead by Mumbai police

Based on the production warrant, the Thane Crime Branch arrested accused Akshay Shinde around 5:30 p.m. from Taloja jail in a new case brought by his wife.

They were taking him to Thane so they could look into it. As the car got close to the Mumbra bypass, Shinde grabbed one of the cops’ revolvers and shot the officer two or three times, wounding him. Another cop retaliated by shooting Shinde, fatally injuring him.

Badlapur rape case

Huge demonstrations broke out last month at the local railway station and on the streets when Shinde was accused of sexually abusing two young girls in the school bathroom in Badlapur, Maharashtra, in the Thane district.

On August 1, the school hired 23-year-old Shinde under contract to clean the restrooms. But he allegedly sexually attacked two girls on separate days within ten days of joining.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was established by the Maharashtra government to look into the matter.

The Thane Police Commissioner was instructed by Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to suspend the head constable, assistant sub-inspector, and senior police inspector of the Badlapur police station without delay for their failure to take prompt action during the early stages of the Badlapur event.

Due to the occurrence, the principal, a class teacher, and a female attendant were suspended by the school administration.

Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis supported police action

Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, supported the police’s decision to shot dead the accused sexual assaulter after he opened fire on them on Monday.

“Akshay Shinde was brought into custody for an investigation after his ex-wife filed a report alleging sexual assault against him. He opened fire on Nilesh More, a police officer, injuring him and forcing him into the hospital. That was a self-defense move by the police. After a probe, more details will be revealed, the chief minister was cited by ANI as saying.

Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis too defended the Thane Police, Stating, “His (Akshay Shinde) ex-wife has lodged a complaint of sexual assault, police along with a warrant was taking him for investigation. He grabbed the police gun and started shooting at the officers in the air as well. He was shot by police in self-defense.”

“The hospital received him. Doctors will confirm it later, but as of right now, we know that he has passed away. The opposition question everything, the same opposition was calling for his execution. Wouldn’t the police defend themselves if he had attacked them? It’s incorrect to turn it into a problem,” he continued.
