After that, Modi will travel to New York, where on September 22 he will speak at a sizable gathering of the local community in Long Island. He’s scheduled to appear at the UN’s Summit of the Future on September 23. After that, he’ll travel back to India.
PM Modi is on his three-day visit to the USA
Taking to X, PM Modi on Saturday said, “I will be on a visit to USA, where I will take part in various programmes. I will attend the Quad Summit being hosted by President Biden at his hometown Wilmington. I look forward to the deliberations at the Summit. I will also be having a bilateral meeting with President Biden. In New York, I will be attending the Summit of the Future. I will also be addressing a community programme in the city.”
What is Quad Leaders’ summit
Australia, India, Japan, and the United States form the strategic alliance known as the Quad, which was formerly known as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue.
President Biden hosted each leader of these nations and had bilateral discussions with each of them this year. As a sign of his close ties to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this is the first time Biden has invited a foreign leader to his hometown.
Biden raised the Quad to the status of a leadership-level forum in 2021.
This summit marks Biden’s final meeting with the Quad, an alliance he prioritized and boosted in importance during his first year in office.
What is ‘Summit of the Future’
On September 23, during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, PM Modi will deliver a speech at the ‘Summit of the Future’ as part of his US tour. ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’ is the topic of the summit.
Antonio Guterres, the secretary general of the UN, called the gathering a “once in a generation UN Summit.” ‘Summit of the Future’ is especially important as the UN gets closer to celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2025.
The Pact of the Future, which include annexes including the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations, will be unanimously adopted by UN Member States during the summit.
The Summit is taking place in the midst of ongoing crises like the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah and the war in Ukraine, as well as persistent global challenges like climate change, inequality, and geopolitical conflicts.
