New Delhi: On Tuesday, Arvind Kejriwal submitted his resignation as Chief Minister of Delhi, allowing Atishi to assume the position.

Atishi was chosen as the CM during AAP legislative party meeting that Kejriwal presided over at his Delhi home.

Kejriwal hopes that by taking this action, the public will provide him a “certificate of honesty,” which he hopes to receive in the form of an election victory in January 2025.

Days after being granted bail in connection with the excise policy case, the national convenor of the AAP announced on Sunday that he will step down as CM in 48 hours and called for early elections in Delhi. He promised that until he received a “certificate of honesty,” he would not take the chief ministerial seat.

Samajwadi Party on appointment of Atishi as new CM of Delhi

Akhilesh Yadav, the head of the Samajwadi Party, praised 43-year-old Atishi on her appointment as Delhi’s chief minister on Tuesday, describing her as “combative” and “determined.”

The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh stated that she must both confront the BJP’s “negative politics” and continue her public duty.

Congress said, “Kejriwal was compelled to quit”

President of the Delhi Congress Devender Yadav asserted on Tuesday that Arvind Kejriwal was “compelled” to quit as chief minister due to the several conditions the top court placed on his bail in the excise policy case. Yadav also stated that Kejriwal carried the “stigma of corruption” attached to him.

He stated that Atishi, the incoming chief minister, ought to step up and address the issues facing Delhi’s citizens, especially the city’s women.

BJP leaders raised several questions against Atishi

“I think Atishi was a safe bet for them. This is another of Arvind Kejriwal’s tactics. He could have done this five months ago,” says BJP leader Shazia Ilmi on AAP leader Atishi succeeding Arvind Kejriwal as Delhi CM.

BJP leader Manoj Tiwari said, “Atishi has been appointed by them as CM. Although her background is doubtful, we nonetheless welcome her. Her parents had written to the President of India, pleading for Afzal Guru’s (a Kashmiri separatist) mercy. Even Atishi defends people who aim to defame India. Imagine the consequences if someone like this becomes CM.”

“I congratulate Atishi as her party has chosen her as the next CM. Her remarks, however, disappointed me. Arvind Kejriwal is Delhi’s sole chief minister, according to her. Does this imply that she won’t be receiving the duties of a CM and will only be receiving the designation? Does this imply that Arvind Kejriwal would bask in his power with no accountability? I ask Delhi’s residents to choose the BJP to rule the city in the upcoming elections,” BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj stated.

Additional Information

According to authorities, Delhi Police is expected to provide Chief Minister-designate Atishi, with “Z” category security protection who announced her intention to form a new government following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation.

An official stated that because Chief Minister Kejriwal had submitted his resignation, police will also review his protection.

Kejriwal currently has “Z-plus” security cover, which provides about 40 personnel to him in shifts.

Arvind Kejriwal will be replaced as Chief Minister of the nation’s capital by Atishi, the Minister of Education in Delhi. Let’s look back at her path as she assumes her new role.

Following her studies from Delhi University and Oxford university, Atishi entered the teaching profession. She then became a member of an NGO. But in 2013, she quit her work to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and begin her political career.

Atishi has property worth just Rs 1.41 crore, even though she worked for years and then rose through the levels of AAP politics. These numbers are based on the affidavit that the Kalkaji MLA provided prior to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
