“I can’t discuss politics in real-life but can do it in films,” Ananya on MeeToo

Ananya Panday recently spoke about how she blends her moral and social convictions with her professional work. The actor stated that although she avoids discussing politics, she is happy that her on-screen roles bring attention to social issues. In her speech at the India Today Mind Rocks Youth Summit 2024 on women’s safety and empowerment, Ananya considered the important role her work could have in tackling issues pertaining to women.

Ananya Panday shared about how she blends her moral and social convictions with her professional work.

When discussing the MeToo movement and its focus on her new series Call Me Bae, Ananya said, ‘With great power comes great responsibility.’ It is crucial that I utilize my voice appropriately. As an actress, I sometimes feel a little powerless when people tell me, ‘Don’t get too political or don’t say that’ but I’ve come to realize that my art is in line with my social and moral convictions. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but Call Me Bae, for example, goes into a zone where it advocates for women, women’s empowerment, and the MeToo movement. I might not have been able to discuss it in detail in real life for a variety of reasons. But, if I can do that through my work, I feel like that also has a large impact.”

She added, “Knowing the effect my actions have on people, I don’t think I will ever do anything as an actor that goes against my views as a human being. Our nation can easily be persuaded. I can be so easily influenced. I recognize that, which is why it’s critical to take note of the work you do. I make an effort to be as authentic as I can. I’m not among those who think it’s necessary to talk about everything. I think it’s critical to speak up for what you believe in. I am aware of my priorities. I am a strong advocate for women’s safety in our nation and have been vocal about it.”
