Ayushman Bharat scheme witnessed a positive change, it’s reach expands

New Delhi: The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will now cover senior individuals who are 70 or older, according to a Center announcement. Approximately 4.5 crore families, including 6 crore older folks, will benefit from the initiative.

“This is a significant judgment that incorporates humanitarian principles. PM Modi has fulfilled his commitment today,” Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated at a cabinet briefing in Delhi.

“Under AB PM-JAY, the eligible older citizens would receive a new, unique card. Seniors 70 years of age and older who are members of families that are already covered by the scheme will receive an extra top-up coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh annually for themselves.

According to the government’s official announcement, senior individuals who are 70 years of age or older and have private health insurance or are covered by the Employees’ State Insurance program can now apply for benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

However, according to the announcement, individuals who are currently enrolled in public health insurance programs like as the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), or Ayushman CAPF have to select between AB PM-JAY and their current plan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on X, “We are committed to ensuring that every Indian has access to high-quality, reasonably priced healthcare.” In light of this, the Cabinet has agreed to extend the reach of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY in order to provide health care for all individuals who are older than 70. Six crore citizens will be guaranteed security, care, and dignity thanks to this program!

According to the government, AB PM-JAY is the largest publicly financed health assurance program in the world. It covers secondary and tertiary care hospitalization costs for up to Rs 5 lakh per family annually for 55 million individuals, comprising 12.34 crore families.
