The last Indian prime minister to visit Poland was Morarji Desai in 1979.

In Warsaw, PM Modi received a formal welcome. “Modi, Modi” chants were heard as he was greeted warmly by the Indian population. The prime minister shook hands with a few of the attendees and waved to the group.

He also went to a memorial in Warsaw honoring the period in the 1940s (during World War II), when over 6,000 Polish women and children fled to Jamnagar and Kolhapur, two princely territories in India.

The prime minister is anticipated to speak with Prime Minister Donald Tusk one-on-one and meet with President Andrzej Sebastian Duda. He will also speak to a select group of well-known Indologists and business executives from Poland, as well as the estimated 25,000 members of the Indian community.

Additionally, in March 2022, he spoke with President Duda over the phone and expressed gratitude for Poland’s aid in evacuating Indian citizens from Ukraine and for the particular gesture of easing visa procedures for Indian citizens entering Poland from the crisis zone. In 2022, Poland served as a means of evacuation for almost 4,000 Indian students.

As we celebrate 70 years of diplomatic ties, I am visiting Poland. In his declaration of leaving earlier today, PM Modi stated that India cherishes the deep-rooted friendship with Poland.

PM Modi’s trip to Poland and Ukraine was announced on Monday by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which stated, “Our bilateral trade is substantial.” Furthermore, Poland is now India’s biggest trading partner in Central and Eastern Europe, with a value of almost US $6 billion. An estimated US$3 billion has been invested in Poland by Indians. Additionally, Poland has invested almost $1 billion in India.”

“There are a lot of Indian businesses operating actively in Poland. Additionally, they work in a variety of industries, including IT, agricultural vehicles, medicines, manufacturing, electronics, steel, metals, and chemicals. There are about thirty Polish businesses doing business in India. Additionally, a few of them have manufacturing units. India and Poland now have direct flights, which started operating in 2019. And in a way, this is strengthening the economic and commercial linkages ” MEA Secretary Tanmaya Lal stated.
