In addition to directing the movie, Kangana portrays the previous prime minister. The movie was originally set for release in October or November of 2023, but was rescheduled until June 14, 2024. Due to the advent of Lok Sabha elections the film was postponed further and finally the trailer was unveiled on August 14 and the film is slated for release on September 6.
Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, a militant Sikh preacher and advocate for Khalistan, is portrayed by an actor in the teaser. Radical Sikh groups are against the movie’s scene featuring Bhindranwale.
“There is a serious conspiracy if Sikhs are portrayed in this movie as terrorists or separatists. This movie is a psychological assault meant to incite enmity toward Sikhs in other cultures. He stated that the film should be banned by the government with advance warning.
“Hatred crimes have been committed against Sikhs, and this movie will simply incite hostility against the community. A lot of work is being done to discredit the Sikh community, despite the fact that they have made significant sacrifices for the nation that have not received enough attention in movies. To protect law and order and preserve communal harmony, objectionable movies ought to be outlawed”, according to Khalsa.
In June, Khalsa defeated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) nominee and friend of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Karamjit Singh Anmol, by a margin of 70,246 votes to win the Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency.
