17 August, New Delhi: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who landed in the national capital to a lively reception at Delhi Airport on Saturday, expressed her gratitude for receiving such love and respect from the people. Vinesh was joined by Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda on a roadshow following her arrival in Delhi today. Vinesh told ANI, “I am grateful for this love and respect I have received from my countrymen.”

According to Bajrang Punia, Vinesh has been welcomed like a champion. He also thanked everyone for their support. “She (Vinesh Phogat) is being greeted as a champion. The country witnessed Vinesh’s rise from the streets to the podium. Bajrang told ANI, “We thank all of our countrymen.
Sakshi Malik stated that Vinesh has done a lot for women and the nation, and she hopes that people will continue to appreciate him.
“Today’s a big day. What Vinesh has accomplished for all women and the nation is amazing. Sakshi remarked, “I just hope people continue to respect her… for us, she is an Olympic champion.”
The Haryana-born wrestler became overwhelmed and burst into tears during her arrival at the airport today.
Vinesh made history in Paris as the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final. She was, however, disqualified from the 50 kg category, gold medal match after being discovered to be 100 grams overweight. On Wednesday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) denied her request to be awarded joint silver. She declared her retirement from wrestling on August 8, one day after being disqualified.
A large crowd gathered at Delhi Airport to greet the 29-year-old. Fans showered her with flower petals as she arrived in the national capital.
