PM Modi is set to conduct an airborne surveillance of the landslide-affected area in Wayanad

PM Modi, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Governor Arif Mohammed departed for Wayanad on an IAF Mil Mi-17 helicopter to conduct an aerial survey of the landslide region. Suresh Gopi, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Tourism, will also accompany them.

Teams working in the rescue operation will brief him on the evacuation plans. The Prime Minister will visit the relief camp and hospital to meet and interact with landslide victims and survivors, according to reports.

Mr. Modi will subsequently lead a review meeting, during which he will be briefed in detail on the tragedy and ongoing rescue efforts.

Mr. Modi’s visit is critical for rehabilitating the disaster victims. The ruling coalition and the opposition had asked the central government to designate the July 30 earthquake, which demolished Chooralmala, Mundakkai, and Attamala, a national disaster.
