3 August, New Delhi: A number of MPs from Punjab called for improvements to the state’s healthcare system, citing the need for facilities and shortages of doctors.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal, a Bathinda MP from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), criticized the lack of funding for health facilities during the Lok Sabha session, pointing out that money is frequently wasted on constructing tall monuments and bullet trains.
In addition to pointing out that AIIMS Bathinda only had 28 beds in the emergency room despite receiving hundreds of patients, she urged the Center to approve unpaid bills for medical facilities in the state.
Additionally, Badal said that patients in Punjab were not receiving proper care because of the conflict between the AAP-led state administration and the BJP-led federal government.

Amritsar Congress MP Gurjeet Aujla stated the city should be developed as a medical center where Pakistani patients may receive reasonably priced medical services. He also demanded upgrades for the century-old Amritsar Medical College and the establishment of an AIIMS in Amritsar.
Sher Singh Ghubaya, a fellow Congress MP from Ferozepur, stated that although a Rs 500 crore grant was awarded in 2012 to establish a PGI in Ferozpur, construction on it had not yet begun. His region is home to multiple cancer patients. In addition, he asked the Center to build a cancer hospital in his district.
