In India, July has been dominated by layoffs in the IT industry. The start of the month brought news of the closure of Koo, an Indian microblogging platform that was X’s competitor, following a collapse of negotiations for Dailyhunt to acquire it. The massive Indian edtech company Unacademy said that it would be firing about 250 employees. Unacademy laid off over 150 employees in sales and 100 employees in business, product, and marketing as part of a reorganization.

In the meantime, WayCool, a Chennai-based agritech company, made over 200 layoffs in its third wave of layoffs in a year. According to reports, WayCool’s layoffs occurred while the company was restructuring to cut costs following difficulties securing finance. Conversely, PocketFM, an audio series platform based in Bengaluru, has let go of over 200 authors. The precise figure is still unknown, but the business apparently let go of writers for its US based audio series.

In June, the well-known fintech company Paytm announced the largest layoffs in its history in India. The reason for the layoffs was that Paytm Payments had been forbidden from operating by the Reserve Bank of India. After the ban, the corporation cut about 3,500 workers from its sales sector, bringing its total workforce down to 36,521.
