Days after rumors circulated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may travel to Kyiv (capital of Ukraine) next month, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced on Monday that India would be stepping up its conversations with both Russia and Ukraine in order to try and resolve their conflict.

According to Jaishankar, India has maintained that a resolution to the conflict will not come from the battlegrounds. However, he issued a warning, stating that it may be “fatalistic” to let events unfold naturally and hope that developments in other regions of the world will bring about some sort of resolution.
At the Japan National Press Club, he stated, “We do believe that we should be more active there,” in an interactive session.
Jaishankar is in Japan for three days.
“It is reasonable to anticipate increased interactions between our country and Ukraine, as well as with Russia,” he stated in response to a query regarding rumors of Modi’s impending visit to Kyiv the following month.
