Political parties should make criminal records of their candidates public – Chief Electoral Officer

Chief Electoral Officer of Haryana, Mr. Anurag Aggarwal said that it is mandatory for the candidates and political parties contesting the Lok Sabha 2024 general elections in the state to publish and broadcast in print and electronic media thrice about the criminal background of their candidate. Apart from this, the concerned political party will also have to post the information about the criminal case of its candidate on the official website of its party. If the political parties do not do so and any complaint is received by the Election Commission, action will be taken against the candidate. He said that the process of filling nomination papers has been completed on May 6.

Voters will be protected from heat wave, Commission made additional arrangements.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that in view of the summer season, special arrangements will be made at the polling stations in Haryana on the day of voting on May 25. Basic facilities including tents, fans, cold drinking water will be ensured for protection from heat waves and for shade. Apart from this, the BLO will also give information to the voters through the queue management app about how many people are in the queue to vote, so that there is not too much crowd at the polling station at one time and the voter does not have to wait for a long time to cast his vote.

He said that he has appealed to 2 crore 76 thousand 441 voters of the state to celebrate the festival of democracy on May 25 and definitely vote.

No mobile or electronic device can be taken inside the polling booth. He said that voters should not carry mobile phones, electronic gadgets, electronic watches, spy cameras etc. inside the polling booth, as there is a possibility of breaking the secrecy of voting. He clarified that only the presiding officer will be allowed to keep the mobile. Voters should carry only identity documents with them.

Voters have sent 7512 complaints to the Commission on C-Vigil.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that the C-Vigil app has been prepared by the Election Commission to provide information about complaints of violation of the Model Code of Conduct. In the age of information technology, voters are IT-savvy and as soon as information regarding violation of code of conduct on the said app comes to their notice, they immediately send it to the Commission. So far in Haryana, voters have sent 7512 complaints on C-Vigil, out of which 6655 complaints have been upheld by the Assistant Returning Officers.

Similarly, 768 from Ambala district, 131 from Bhiwani, 157 from Fatehabad, 619 from Gurgaon, 406 from Hisar, 265 from Jhajjar, 76 from Jind, 156 from Kaithal, 38 from Karnal, 154 from Kurukshetra, 25 from Mahendragarh, 25 from Mewat. 53 complaints, 130 from Palwal, 136 from Panchkula, 19 from Panipat, 50 from Rewari, 697 from Sirsa, 194 from Sonipat, 15 from Yamunanagar district have been sent to the Commission.
